Anyone have any ideas what i can do to outline it? And what are some nice and not cheap and not expensive shrubs I can put around the house? Is it true i can use spray paint to outline my landscaping design?
If you are planning a shaped bed, it's very simple to outline it with your garden hose. However, there is spray paint that can be used for marking the area and can usually be purchased at hardware stores. It's the same paint used by Dept. of Transportation and municipalities for marking roadside areas or construction areas. Surveyors also use it.
I don't know your location but here are some fairly hardy shrubs that can be trimmed nicely. Ixora, plumbago, Indian Hawthorne, Ilex, juniper, boxwood, arbecola shefflera and ligustrum, to name a few.Is it true i can use spray paint to outline my landscaping design?
A garden hose works nice to make an outline for a planting bed. Then you just follow the hose and cut the edge with a spade and set your edging into the spades trench.
Not knowing where you live makes it impossible to give you proper information on what to plant. Climate is important along with the direction your home may face, windows, door, etc. A lot to think about before planting. I know I am a retired landscape designer. Make your planting beds deep enough so plants at full size do not hit your home.
I can advise you on not to over plant. Make sure you always find out the maximum size of the plants you are using, both height and width. Do not place high plants near door. High plants should be at the farthest lowering in height towards the door, to draw the eye towards your front entrance. Also take into account colors and textures of plants you find hardy to your area and if you have a cold winter season make sure to have a nice balance of evergreens with deciduous for winter color.
Yes, but not regular spray paint....they sell in many colors, but I like fluorescent orange, marking spray made for that application. Utility companies use it as well as depart. trans.....the shrubs depend on your area.....there are sooo many!!
I saw someone use flour, like the baking kind since it will wash away. Azeleas are the most common. I like a 'burning bush' but the minitaure kind. The leafs turn bright red in the fall. They are really pretty.
I use spray paint all the time to mark where i want to dig. Any cheap kind will work, just make sure it is a contrasting color to the grass.
