Is it true that you can use lime to neutralize odors in the yard?

We had a pipe burst outside. There was a raw sewage leak...with the odor and all that goes with it!! I was told that lime would be good way to handle the waste and the odor.Is it true that you can use lime to neutralize odors in the yard?

You can get it at most garden centers and greenhouses. Be careful. You may upset the ph of the soil. No big deal. Just be aware.
My wife and I recently watched a movie about Ted Bundy. It depicts Bundy using lime to mask the smell of the decaying corpses in his crawlspace underneath his home. I guess it will work.
