Is it true METRO PCS could use any phone and activate it under their service?

I have a verizon phone and my brother told me Metro PCS could still activate it but for an extra charge. Is this true?Is it true METRO PCS could use any phone and activate it under their service?
Metro PCS can only use CDMA phones (phones that don't require a SIM card or chip to work like GSM phones). GSM phones include T-mobile, Cingular/ AT%26amp;T, and some nextels.

However this leaves Verizon, Sprint, Boost mobile Cricket, Virgin mobile, and other phones wide open for selection. The best way to know is if you bring it into a store.

Also be aware that although it is a great value, the phone you will be bringing in is USED, so there is no warranty if something goes wrong. Also there are limitations. No picture messaging, Internet, or downloadable content from Metro's service. If your ok with unlimited local, long distance, text messaging, caller id and voicemail for a low price, with no contracts or cancelation charges its a good option.

Oh yeah, and its $30 bucks right now with the first month free..

p.s. forgive me if i sound like a commercial...Is it true METRO PCS could use any phone and activate it under their service?
