Is it true that you can use a Wrigley's gum wrapper as a one dollar bill in a vending machine?

I won't try it because my dad's a cop and I know it's fraud. Will it work because of the fact that a vending machine reads the reflector strip on a dollar? Or is it because they're both rectangular?Is it true that you can use a Wrigley's gum wrapper as a one dollar bill in a vending machine?
