I'm looking for your explanation. Do you use the cross? Why or why not? Why do true Christians not use the cross in worship?
True Christians know that the cross is a idol and should not be worshiped. Most people claim that they only wear it as a reminder for the price Jesus paid for us all. I don't understand this really cause why would you need a reminder if you have a relationship with his Father? The symbol of the cross came from the sun god Tammuz. It is now associated with the SON of God. How sad that man has taken something that is Pagan and relate it to the savior of mankind. How our Father's heart must be breaking and Satan's rejoicing in the shame that mankind could do this and not even really care. One of the ten commandments says that we should not have NO graven images. The cross would certainly fit that commandment. in John 4:24 it says that God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth. So hanging on to that cross while praying to Jehovah God is not praying in truth because you need a idol. Why do true Christians not use the cross in worship?
Even if Jesus died on a cross as opposed to a singular timber, the concept of wearing or using one in worship is absurd.
Imagine the devise that was used or instrumental in the death of a loved one being used in worshiping or venerating that one? it is just so distasteful, and adding to that is the fact that it is actually a pagan symbol to boot.
Also it does remind me of the golden calf that the Israelites erected to use in their worship to God. They were not worshipping the calf, however they were using it as an aid in worshipping God, yet this was not acceptable. Thus we can see how this would not have God's approval.
Hope this helps
No, we would not want to use anything in symbol of our worship!
Deuteronomy 4:16 that YOU may not act ruinously and may not really make for yourselves a carved image, the form of any symbol, the representation of male or female,
Deuteronomy 5:8 “‘You must not make for yourself a carved image, any form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth.
Deuteronomy 20:4 “You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth.
Isaiah 40:25 “But to whom can YOU people liken me so that I should be made his equal?” says the Holy One.
Acts 17:29 “Seeing, therefore, that we are the progeny of God, we ought not to imagine that the Divine Being is like gold or silver or stone, like something sculptured by the art and contrivance of man.
1 Corinthians 8:4 Now concerning the eating of foods offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.
Revelation 9:20 But the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands, so that they should not worship the demons and the idols of gold and silver and copper and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;
Think about this, if your child was...lets say shot, how would you feel seeing people walk aroung with a gun, the very thing that killed your son, hanging around their neck? That would be traumatic to the parants, and family, and in this sue happy generation, someone would be taken to court.
Use of a cross during worship is different from worshiping a cross. Whether one uses a cross or not does not determine whether they are a true Christian. Please read chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation where Jesus addresses the seven churches. He explains who gets in to heaven from each church and why and it has nothing to do with whether you use or do not use a cross in worship. A true Christian is someone who follows the teachings of the Christ even if the church they belong to is corrupt. We cannot worship a cross, lol, I've never met anyone who does, but that does not preclude use of a cross as part of ritual. I've certainly met many people who don't understand the use of the symbol, believing it signifies death and suffering, when it actually is a symbol of endurance and eternal life. We all have a metaphorical cross we have to bear if we are to make it to heaven, some sort of suffering that will test us and try to take us from our path of morality. Remember the example of Jesus to endure and keep to his teachings, including non violence even if they are violent against you, and you will receive your eternal life. The cross is not an idol, it is if it has a representation of Jesus on it, but without that which many crosses do not have a Jesus image on them, it is not an idol, Christians using a cross do not worship the cross, it is a symbol. Think of it like how you carry pictures of family members in your wallet, you can take them out and look at them when you are separated and feel alone. The pics make you feel better, remind you of those you love, and give you uplift and strength. The cross is a symbol to help focus attention to non violence and non hatred and endurance through adversity so eternal life can be achieved, it is not worshiped for goodness sakes, it has no power, it's an object, not a being. My goodness, the things people assume and misunderstand.
Also, LDS doesn't use a cross but has all these images of Jesus and other prophets, in clear violation of the commandment against images. Seems backwards to me.
Come on Grandma , you know why already, Its a pagan symbol with no significance to Christ's death or his sacrifice that he made on our behalf . ';true Christians';, understand through accurate knowledge of the Bible that any idol, image, statue, symbol or other inanimate object that is considered holy or held in some reverence is clearly against what is taught in the scriptures. By the way, (Directed to some of the others that answered) the notion that your not ';worshipping the Cross';, but only using it to remind you of Jesus Sacrifice , is really idiotic!!! That next breathe you take should be a reminder enough!! You want to show appreciation then do just as Jesus did and follow his example, preach God's word and dedicate your life to learning more about what is required by his Father , Jehovah.
I Would add Scriptures to my answer usually, but I figured you got them already. I wanted to go the secular and Common sense route,
A mob lynched my paternal grandfather using a weapon made of rope.
Another mob lynched my Eternal Father using a weapon made of wood.
If anyone expects me to honor either of these weapons, or the homicides committed using them, by displaying replicas of them, they've missed the entire point of justice, which is one of God's defining attributes.
All statues / images are banned by the second commandment.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Exodus 20.4
Those churches that believe the Pope has the authority to change the 10 Commandments have no problem with statues, of crosses or most anything else.
The Pope eliminated the Second Commandment about 700 years after Jesus died.
They split the 10th Commandment into two to make up for the loss.
The three changes made to God's Law will result in the destruction of the Earth:
1. Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
2. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.
3. The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this word.
4. The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.
5. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
6. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. Isaiah 24.1-6
Sin is the transgression of God's Law:
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3.4
And it is commanded by the Pope = ';the man of sin';

We (LDS) do not worship the cross because it is merely the instrument of Christ's death. If He had been stoned to death - would we worship the rock? Instead, we worship the resurrected, living Christ who led the way, and was the first fruits of the resurrection.
I've always found it macabre. When I was young, I used to walk by a shop after school. This shop was owned by the church and made religious paintings and crosses. I'd see the artist nailing or welding little figurines of tortured Christs on crosses and felt disgust. The King of Kings portrayed in such a demeaning fashion made me angry.
My mother was a learned individual who showed us from a very early age, just where the cross comes from (along with X-mas and Easter traditions). She said ANYTHING that is used by religion that is sold for a price and a profit made, we should seriously consider.
Wise woman.
Absolutely not I don't.
The cross is a vile thing that symbolizes only the depravity of man.
Christs words I worship, not symbols, or imagery, or bumperstickers.
The cross should be hated.
The cross idol has no place in true worship.
Nowhere in the Bible are we encouraged to use such an idol and many, many times the Bible explicitly tells us that God hates these things.
I am LDS. We do not use the cross. That is how our Savior died. We do not forget that. But if he had died in a car accident, we would not hang a little car about our necks nor mount one on the wall.
Jesus did not die on a cross he died on a torture stake. And there's no scripture that says that we should worship that instrument of execution, or hang it on our neck.
We need Jesus to approach Jehovah. Not a piece of wood =) But as Christians we value Jesus sacrifice. It was his blood that saved us from sins not the cross.
What makes you think ';true Christians'; do not use the cross in worship?
A cross or crucifix, represents and is a symbol of what Jesus did for mankind. He came to this world for the Salvation of mankind and died on the cross and rose again. It is Not for you to Judge who is a 'true Christian' or not and if you are Christian yourself I am assuming so, then you will know God is the judge. By YOUR analogy you could say the same about the Bible.
Well I personally do use the cross in worship when I can ok. I wear a chain with Jesus hanging on the cross around my neck. I use it not as idolatry but to keep you and myself in constant rememberance of what Jesus did on the Cross of Calvary on Golgotha Hill and ifit brings conviction to you when you look a it then maybe you need to repent of something and Praise God I and it done it's Job. Love the Lordsoldier an Apostle of Christ and a Street minister in God's perfect timing a T.V. minister Praise His Holy name!
I often wear a cross (NOT a crucifix) around my neck, but I don't bow before it in church, nor do I meditate on it during private prayers. Christians are to give our honor and worship to God alone, not to a symbol. To do so is idolatry.
True Christians do use the cross in worship. It is a symbol of the means of our salvation. Jesus' death on the cross reconciled us with the Father.
No, Catholics do not worship the cross.
No one uses the cross or crucifix in worship. The cross and the crucifix are reminders of what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did for us
I don't buy your presupposition. Have you stopped beating your grandchildren? Why or why not?
