What does the bible say about this?Should true Christians use the cross in worship?
Each believer who uses a cross in worship needs to evaluate himself to make this determination. Only they know why they use the cross in worship.Should true Christians use the cross in worship?
The very first reply by ';Domme Me'; about how most christians use the cross in worship reminds me of two scriptures:
(Matthew 7:21-23) .聽.聽.Not everyone saying to me, 鈥楲ord, Lord,鈥?will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22聽Many will say to me in that day, 鈥楲ord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?鈥?23聽And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness.聽.聽.
(Matthew 7:13-14) .聽.聽.Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; 14聽whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.
I want to be among the relatively ';few'; who actually follow the Bible.
No. Having a cross doesn't get you to Heaven. You don't need churches, vicars, communion or hymns to get you to Heaven, all you need is faith and good works, everything else isn't necessary. Crosses don't have powers because attributing spiritual powers to objects and images is idolatry, so you don't need an image or object to get you to Heaven. I hope I've made sense lol.
There is no evidence that for the first 300 years after Christ's death,those claiming to be Christians ever used the cross in worship.In the forth century however,pagan Emperor Constantine became a convert to apostate Christianity and promoted the cross as its symbol.Whatever Constantine's motives,the cross had nothing to do with Jesus Christ.The cross is,in fact,pagan in origin.The New Catholic Encyclopedia admits; ';The cross is found in both pre-Christian and non-Christian cultures.';Various other authorities have linked the cross with nature worship and pagan sex rites.
The cross was promoted to make it easier for pagans to accept ';Christianity';. Nevertheless,devotion to any pagan symbol is clearly condemned in the bible.(2 Cor 6:14-18) The scriptures also forbid all forms of idolatry.(Exodus 20:4,5 1 Cor 10:14)
No.
An important reason why a cross should not be used in worshipping the true God is that Jesus did not die on a cross. The Greek word generally translated cross is stau-ros. It basically means ' ';an upright pale or stake.'; The Champion bible points out; (stau-ros) never means two pieces of timber placed across one another at any angle..There is nothing in the Greek or the (New Testament) even to imply two pieces of timber.';
In several texts,bible writers use another word for the instrument of Jesus' death.It is the Greek word xy'lon.(Acts 5:30 10:39 13:29 Galatians 3:13 1 Peter 2:24.) This word simply means ';timber';or ';a stick,club or tree.';
The apostle Paul said; ';Christ by purchase released us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse instead of us,because it is written; ';Accursed is every man hanged upon a stake (a tree,King James version).' ';(Galatians 3:13) Here Paul quotes Deuteronomy 21:22,23 which clearly refers to a stake.
Since such a means of execution made the person ';a curse'; it would not be proper for Christ's followers to decorate their homes with images of Christ impaled.
The Christian cross is the best-known religious symbol of Christianity. It is a representation of the instrument of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is related to the crucifix (a cross that includes a representation of Jesus' body) and to the more general family of cross symbols. The cross is a crucifix without Jesus' body on it.No idol at all. A symbolic reminder of what he went through for us. Another recent modern day reminder that all should watch is Passion of the Christ.It helped my kids get the idea.
No they shouldn't any way you look at a cross it's still an Idol. Which goes completely against the 2nd commandment. Even the apostle John said ';Little children, guard yourselves from idols.'; 1John 5:21.
now I'm not little anymore but I still listen to good advise.
I depends what you mean by use. If you treat it as a idol then I would say no, you shouldn't. If you treat it as an object to remind us what Christ went through for us then yes.
It does worry me that some people treat crucifixes and statues like idols. It is almost as if they are worshiping the items themselves and not God.
Makes me think this is going to turn into a ';no true scotsman'; debate.
the fact is that most christians DO use the cross as a focus, and as a symbol of their faith, and have done so for many hundreds of years.
All things are legal .. we are freed from bondage .. use whatever you like .. true christians are forgiven .. absolutely forgiven ....there is no condemnation for those who are in christ jesus .... Whom the son sets free is // free indeed...
The cross is a reminder. It's not used as an idol. I would feel strange being in a church with no cross in sight. Are you saying I'm wrong to wear a cross?
Christians worship anything, crosses, statues, anything they stumble upon!!!!
At the time of the cruxifiction it was common practice to nail people to trees so the cross is not a christian symbol.
Christians worship the sun under the name of Jesus.
